DESCRIPTION 

This Basic Fire Safety Training Course is designed to raise awareness of fire hazards in the workplace and how to act safely in the event of an emergency fire situation, including selecting and using a fire extinguisher. 

OBJECTIVE

On completion of this Basic Fire Safety Course, participants will be able to:-

• Describe the chemistry of fire
• Identify fire hazards in the workplace
• Follow evacuation procedures
• Select and use appropriate firefighting equipment 

COURSE OUTLINE

1. Chemistry Of Fire

• The fire triangle.
• Fire spread.
• Dangers of smoke.

2. Common Causes Of Fire

• Arson.
• Electrical Equipment.
• Smoking.
• Poor Housekeeping.

3. Safety Features Within Buildings

• Alarm Call Points.
• Smoke and Heat Detectors.
• Emergency Exit Signs.
• Emergency Lighting.
• Fire Doors.

4. Fire Extinguishers

• Water.
• Carbon dioxide (CO₂).
• Foam.
• Dry powder.
• Wet chemical.

• What to do if you discover a fire.
• What to do on hearing the alarm.
